The 34 year old Washington Wizards just made an announcement. He is a ballplayer and yes he is gay. In the May 6, 2013 issue of Sports Illustrated, Collins talks about his decision to come out despite the controversy of gays in sports:
I’m a 34-year-old NBA center. I’m black. And I’m gay.
“I didn’t set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since I am, I’m happy to start the conversation. I wish I wasn’t the kid in the classroom raising his hand and saying, “I’m different.” If I had my way, someone else would have already done this. Nobody has, which is why I’m raising my hand.”
Brandy (Ray J’s sister) is upset about the the whole thing. He says “”I gotta be honest with you, Brandy’s a bit upset. I haven’t talked to her because I know what type of lecture I’m going to get. Brandy is a whole different type of person. She lives in a different kind of world. I’m way more turnt up, my lifestyle is way more on the edge. For her, a lot of things I do, she might not understand but I can say she has my back. She is a little bit concerned and worried about the journey. But in every campaign I do, at the end of it, it always comes out with a positive message. It’s a beginning of a story that we are telling, there’s a middle and there’s a finale, so everyone has to stay tuned, including her.”
